South Arts is sad to hear of the passing of 2009 Mary Beth Treen Award recipient, Jim Woland. Jim was a Program Director for many years at the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and served as a contractor for PCA after his retirement. He worked tirelessly in presenting and touring, mentoring several presenters and championing collaboration among artists, agents, and managers by helping presenters bring touring artists to underserved communities. He especially loved the medium of dance, and advocated for presenters across the state of Pennsylvania to “risk” presenting dance. He is remembered as a man who was warm, funny, and a gifted artist in his own right, who would often make quilts for the infants of his co-workers.
