Anna Thompson

Anna M. Thompson is Executive Director, Associate Vice President of the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Alys Stephens Center (ASC) As the AVP she maximizes contributed and earned revenue, provides staff leadership and mentorship, leads strategic short- and long-range planning, and cultivates integrated audience, university, student and community relationships. Thompson oversees four venues presenting multidisciplinary programs. The ASC also is the home of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. Having just completed it’s 20th Anniversary season, the Alys Stephens Center is a gem within the arts community of Birmingham and the region, prized for its programming, exemplary service and venues.
From 2007 to 2015, Thompson, served as the executive director of the University of Notre Dame’s DeBartolo Performing Arts Center. In this role she oversaw finances, curation of all presentations and the operation of six venues. Curatorial responsibilities included programming oversight for all residencies and commissions. During her tenure, 43 new works for were commissioned on behalf Notre Dame.
From 1998-2007 Thompson, served as executive director at the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University. While there she administered the curation and implementation of a multidisciplinary season of dance, theater and music in five performing arts venues. During 2007-2008, continued as a consultant for the College of St. Benedict through the completion of Merce Cunningham’s “”Ocean”” in a granite quarry.
From 1991- 1998 Thompson curated and administered all arts education programs for Butler University’s Clowes Hall (IN), a multidisciplinary performing arts center. She increased program participation by 800% from 1991 to 1998.
