What is the Performing Arts Exchange?
What is the Performing Arts Exchange? The Performing Arts Exchange is a four day conference that supports the presentation and touring of performing artists along the east and gulf coasts. Conference activities include live performances, professional development workshops, networking and hospitality events. When and where is the 2012 conference? The Performing Arts Exchange changes cities every year and usually takes place in late September. In 2012, PAE will be held in Miami Beach, FL, September 19-22 When and where is the 2013 conference? The 2013 PAE will be in Nashville, Tennessee, from September 23rd to the 26th. What are the registration fees? The registration fees for the 2012 conference have not yet been determined. It is always cheaper to apply early on however, as we offer an Early Bird rate that is typically $50 less than our regular rate. The Early Bird rate typically expires in July. This fee covers the first registrant of a company or organization. Additional registrant rates are usually $100 less than the first registrant rate. Single day registrations are also available. The exhibitor fee ranges depending on the booth size. What do the different registration types mean? Presenters are people who bring artists to communities. Presenters may run venues or rent places for the touring artist to perform. Supporters are people from organizations who are associated with the presenting and touring but are not directly touring or presenting. Exhibitors are artists, agents and managers that are attending the conference to book tour dates and showcase their artists. Conference registrations are only taken online before the conference, and onsite during the conference. What does my registration include? A registration is inclusive of all conference activities. One fee includes access to the professional development workshops, the opening reception, the closing party and juried showcases. This will be my first time attending—what should I know? The PAE Mentorship program is designed to foster the very first relationship for a new colleague, the relationship that will help them learn to navigate their first conference experience, and to continue on after the conference. You'll be able to talk with your Mentor before the conference, meet up with them during the conference and debrief on your experience afterwards. There are also a variety of grants and travel stipends available to first time attending presenters. To view those opportunities go to the Tips for Cost Effective Attending page. Your registration includes: Opening Night Reception (light fare); lunch on Thursday and Friday; and continental breakfast on Thursday and Friday. Other meals are on your own. When registering you can also request vegetarian and non-seafood meals. How do I secure my hotel accommodations? Attendees secure accommodations directly with the hotel. Our hotels have arranged conference rates, just mention that you are attending the Performing Arts Exchange. Find links and telephone numbers to make reservations on our conference information page. And while you are planning your trip to PAE this year why not make it a working vacation? Stay a few days or come early and soke up the warm Miami sunshine. What will the weather be like? The average temperature for Miami in late September is warm—average high is about 87 degrees, and low is around 78 degrees. There may be showers so be prepared and have an umbrella. PAE is "business casual." Wear comfortable shoes as you'll be spending your time on your feet in the Marketplace. Pack something festive and appropriate for dancing at our closing night Fais Do Do. And if you plan to come early or stay a few days after the conference, don't forget to pack your swim suit for the beach! How can I find out last-minute news and information on the conference? We'll be posting any changes, alerts and news directly on the PAE Website. Onsite, changes and news will be posted at the Registration Desk or the meeting boards near registration. Do I need to pre-register for professional development workshops? No, you can choose your workshops onsite and just show up – if you’re really interested in a topic, arrive a little bit early to ensure a good seat. What is the cancellation policy? South Arts will honor a refund request of 50% of the registration fee should a problem arise that prevents attending the Performing Arts Exchange prior to August 23. Refund requests must be submitted in writing to the PAE director. All Showcase fees and Booth Lottery fees are non-refundable. I’m from the area and just want to check out the conference. Can I attend for one day? Yes, Single Day registrations are available online or onsite at the conference. If you are an artist seeking work, you cannot solicit presenters unless you or your management are officially represented in the Marketplace with a booth. Also, if you are not a registered attendee and woud like to come to one of our juried showcases, they are free and open to the public. Where can I find the Exhibitor Kit? As soon as it is available, the exhibitor kit can be found in the exhibitor service center. Where can I find the attendee lists? The attendee lists can be found in your service center. Please contact Leland McKeithan if you cannot locate your login. |
